Editorial Policy

How we research, write, verify, and fix everything on this site. Accuracy and usefulness over volume.

How We Choose Topics

We write about questions real homeowners actually ask: what things cost, how to vet a contractor, what to do in an emergency, and how to avoid getting scammed. Topic selection is driven by homeowner search intent and the gaps we see in existing advice — not by keyword volume targets.

How Articles Are Researched and Written

How Business Listings Are Verified

Listings start from public business data. Our verification process:

This is a directory verification — it confirms the business exists and its public information checks out. It is not a licensing audit, a background check, or a guarantee of work quality. Always verify licensing and insurance yourself before hiring (see our Disclaimer).

How Ratings Data Is Handled

Corrections and Updates

We get things wrong sometimes, and business data goes stale. If you spot an error — in a guide or a listing — email info@hirecontractorfinder.com with what is wrong and, if you can, a source. We investigate reported errors, fix confirmed ones promptly, and update stale content. Business owners can claim their listing to keep it accurate.

Independence: Paid Listings Don't Buy Coverage

Editorial content is not for sale. What we write about a trade, a topic, or a business is never influenced by whether that business pays for a listing. Paid listings (Pro and Premium plans) may receive additional profile features and placement, and they are always clearly labeled as paid. Rankings in organic directory results are based on publicly available data — ratings, review counts, and listing completeness — not on who pays us. We do not accept payment for positive reviews.

Advertising and Sponsorship

If we ever publish sponsored content, it will be clearly labeled as sponsored and kept visually distinct from editorial content. Sponsors do not review or approve editorial content.

Stay in the loop

New contractors, seasonal home guides, and the occasional update — nothing more.
